Where to Eat Local in Western Newfoundland: Farm Markets, Seafood, Coffee & Culinary Experiences

A Local's Guide to Farm Markets, Fresh Seafood, Roadside Stands & Authentic Culinary Experiences Near Gros Morne

Published: 2026

Discover the Flavours of Western Newfoundland

One of the best ways to experience Western Newfoundland isn't by dining at the same chain restaurants you can find anywhere in Canada—it's by eating like the locals do.

Imagine beginning your morning with locally roasted coffee, picking up greenhouse-fresh lettuce harvested just hours earlier, stopping at an honesty market for seasonal vegetables, enjoying freshly cooked lobster overlooking the ocean, and finishing your evening around a farm table listening to stories shared over a meal made with ingredients grown just steps away.

Whether you're visiting Gros Morne National Park, exploring the Humber Valley, or driving the Viking Trail, Western Newfoundland offers incredible opportunities to connect with the people who grow, harvest, raise, and prepare the region's food.

Here's our guide to finding some of the freshest local food on Newfoundland's west coast.

Why Eat Local While Visiting Newfoundland?

Travelling is about more than seeing beautiful places—it's about experiencing them.

When you choose locally grown vegetables, freshly caught seafood, artisan honey, or handcrafted preserves, you're supporting family farms, fishermen, beekeepers, and small businesses that help make rural Newfoundland unique.

Better yet, you'll enjoy food that often travels only a few kilometres, sometimes just meters instead of thousands of kilometres.

Local Honey & Bee Farms

Western Newfoundland's wildflowers create incredible honey.

Several local beekeepers welcome visitors looking for authentic Newfoundland flavours.
